Silence an alert

Two types of silences can be created :

• a silence with an expiration date
• a silence which automatically expands as long as the alert is present (in firing state)

How to choose silence type ?

You can create a silence with an expiration date when :

• you know the correct duration of the alert

  If you create a silence too short, you should remember to recreate the same silence to deactivate the alert again.

  If you create a silence too long, you should remember to remove this silence.

You can create a renewable silence (with ACK! in comment) when:

• you don't know the correct duration of the alert

• and the alert always remains in active state

  If the alert is active, not active, active (...), the silence will no longer be renewed.
